NOD exists to help designers develop their practice through connection, exchange, and opportunity. Rather than focusing on the production of exhibitions, events, or cultural programming as ends in themselves, NOD focuses on producing better-positioned designers. Exhibitions, residencies, publications, talks, research, trips, dinners, and exchanges are tools used in service of that goal.

NOD works closely with a small group of designers, providing direct support while sharing the knowledge generated through that process openly with the wider design community. Its central belief is that meaningful development requires sustained attention, trust, and long-term dialogue.
